The In-Between Stages of Faith: Inspirational tips for when you feel like giving up on your dreams

Hey y’all,

I hope this message finds you well.

For this week’s love note I want to chat with you about the in-between stages of faith.

The past few weeks have been especially hard for me personally in many areas of my life. Back in December 2020, I made the decision to leave Corporate America. I worked in Higher Education as an Executive Director for almost a decade and I decided to walk away, walk out on faith and bet completely on myself. But trust me, this faith walk has not come without its fair share of worry, panic, and doubt. It is and has been terrifying leaving the comfort of my “secure” 9-5 life to total entrepreneurship.

During a recent meltdown I had during a therapy session, my therapist and I got to talking and we both agreed that we wish the Bible gave us more insight into the day-to-day processes of those who shared their stories. Like, I wish I could read Noah's exact thoughts on the days he felt like an absolute ‘nutcase’ building a gigantic arc on a beautiful, sun shinning day. And even once the rain began and everything flooded and he didn't feel so ‘crazy’ anymore, I’m sure he still had his fair share of worries and doubts even while on the arc. Thoughts such as, “Will we have enough supplies to get us through this?” or “How many days is this going to last?” etc.

I find myself wondering these exact same thoughts for my own situation: “Is all this work I do around the clock to build my brand even worth it?” “Did I make the worse decision of my life tapping fully into entrepreneurship?” “Why in the freak did I leave the best paying job I have had to date, to now have no idea when or if the next sale is going to happen?”

This is why I feel it is so important for us to share vulnerable stories with one another, while in the struggle; not only once everything is all figured out and beautiful.

Sharing with you all that I am terrified about my decision, but in the same breath, sharing that I am still actively choosing to stay the course because I feel that my breakthrough, my miracle, my blessing is nearing.

This in-between stage of faith also got me to thinking about Netflix’s, Dolemite Is My Name movie. It is a movie dedicated to the late Rudy Rae Moore’s struggle and rise to stardom. Many times throughout his life he was doubtful, worried, and left with little-to-no motivation after facing challenge after challenge and his ideas and dreams being consistently turned down by several people and corporations. But even with all the adversity he faced, he still continuously betted on himself. So much so that he put everything on the line to create his now megahit movie, Dolemite; that at one point in time, got him laughed out the building, but now is being showcased and honored by one of the world’s biggest production companies, Netflix and him being portrayed by the mega- star, Eddie Murphy.

The Alchemist: A go-to for inspiration during difficult times

During troubling and fretful times like these, I find the most comfort in being open and honest about my worries with trust loved ones, journaling, meditating, getting out in nature, and listening to one of my favorite books, The Alchemist. If you have never read The Alchemist, I encourage you to do so; whether you work a corporate job, are an entrepreneur, or a combination of both or neither. It is a story that every time I read it, I come away with something different. It is an encouraging tale that encourages you to follow your personal legend aka your intuitive felt purpose.

Many times we often think a corporate job or working for someone else isn’t following your purpose and that is not necessarily true. That’s why it is so important that you take the necessary time to really get to know yourself outside of the world’s distractions. Although I am no longer apart of Corporate America, I took with me from it a lot of learned skills and capabilities that have now afforded me the ability to build 1my own brand. But, if 5 years from now my personal legend should shift and I feel guided to move on to the next adventure in life, that’s okay too because the only constant in life is change.

I encourage you to read or listen to The Alchemist if you are feeling any doubt within yourself and/or your circumstances or even if you feel you are in the greatest space in life you’ve ever been. I guarantee you, any and everybody can take something positive away from The Alchemist as long as you are open to its message.

I hope this love note helps you realize you are not alone in your worries; whatever yours may be, we all as humans deal with self-doubt in various ways within our lives.

Remember: The more you get to know you, the less anyone else can tell you about you even when you feel like a complete ‘nutcase.’ ‘Cause at the end of the day, you know the feelings are only here for a visit and will move along accordingly when dealt with appropriately.

Until next time.

HEY THERE, I'M KEESH!

With Love Keesh

To tell you a little about myself: I'm a Shreveport, Louisiana native and alumna of Louisiana Tech University (B.S., Biology, 2011) and University of Louisiana at Lafayette (MBA, Healthcare Administration, 2014)

I have always been a writer: I first started writing at the age of six. Over the years, I have inconsistently tapped into various forms of writing, including, résumé generating and editing services, blogging about various topics, etc., but each time, I would create a trivial reason to quit. With the help and prophetic word from my therapist, I finally chose to step fully into my purpose as a healing writer; one with the intention to create a safe space for those interested in reconnecting with their authentic self through full body, mind and soul integration healing.
